PIPE AND CISTERN

Hi friends in our previous blog we studied about important questions of TIME AND WORK with best trick . So trick was very easy to implement on questions.We cover mostly all types of question based on TIME AND WORK.

Today we are going to start with our new topic PIPE AND CISTERN.

PIPE AND CISTERN is also one of the most important topic for Railway , SSC , UPSSC examinations point of view.Good thing is we are going to solve these questions by same trick we discussed in TIME AND WORK .Lets start with questions.

PIPE AND CISTERN TRICK

See the image above ,i solved the question with same trick we used in previous topic TIME AND WORK.

Q   Tow pipes A and B fill a tank in 20 minute and 30 minute respectively.If both pipes are opened together ,The time taken to fill the tank?

SOL    

             efficiency                    time                       capacity

                    3             A          20min 

                                                                                  60 litre(LCM of 20and 30)

                    2             B          30min

note*         WORK=EFFICIENCY*TIME

          here in pipe and cistern take WORK as CAPACITY

    Always follow these steps:

• A efficiency(filling in one minute)=Capacity/Time =60/20=3
• B efficiency(filling in one minute)=60/30=2
• If both pipes A and B are opened together then efficiency of (A+B)=(3+2)=5
• Time taken to fill by both pipes=Time=Capacity/Efficiency

           =60/5 = 12 minutes taken by A and B together.        

Trick is same for both TIME AND WORK and PIPE AND CISTERN.These types of questions are easy to solve with normal method but it takes much time solve the question,and time is everything if you are preparing for competitive examinations.
